Situation

Our client, a global transportation company wanted to improve operational efficiencies and needed a partner to build a modern data platform. Moving to a scalable and future ready cloud-based data platform would enhance analytics capabilities and enable their partners to achieve business objectives.

Building a modern data and BI platform on Azure

The modern data platform supports real time data processing and analytics, and improves operational performance.

In addition, migration of a large amount of data from a legacy data platform, Exact Transfer Load (ETL) processes and a reporting tool was needed.

Action

We developed a modern data and reporting platform on Azure. This architecture modernization updates and transformed our client’s IT architecture. The platform enables our client to easily adapt to changing business requirements.

In addition, we developed reusable frameworks to expedite the large-scale migration of tables from the existing Oracle database.

Other activities included the migration of an on-premise Oracle Data Warehouse to Azure Synapse, and migration of complex Ab Initio Extract, Transfer, Load (ETL) graphs to ELT-based PySpark notebooks. For efficiency, we utilized the automation tool Ab Initio ETL to PySpark.

Azure Data Factory based ingestion pipeline and Databricks ETL frameworks were implemented for both historical and real-time data changes. SAP BusinessObjects (BO) intelligence was transferred to Microsoft Power BI.

Our client now has a modern data platform that can grow with the business, supports real time data processing and analytics, and improves operational performance.
