Job Title: Backend Engineer (Spring Boot + GCP)
Location: Remote / Hybrid
The Opportunity
We are modernizing a large-scale enterprise platform as part of a cloud transformation initiative. This role focuses on developing and enhancing backend services using Spring Boot, while leveraging Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services for scalable, secure, and reliable application deployment.
You will play a key role in building cloud-native microservices, integrating with managed GCP services, and supporting migration from legacy environments to modern cloud architecture.
What You Will Do
Design, develop, and maintain RESTful microservices using Spring Boot
Refactor existing services for cloud-native deployment on GCP
Integrate backend services with GCP services such as:
Cloud Spanner (or other managed databases)
Pub/Sub (event-driven integration, if applicable)
GKE (container orchestration)
Implement secure service-to-service communication and authentication
Design and optimize data access layers (JPA, JDBC, or cloud-native connectors)
Handle exception management, retry logic, idempotency, and transaction boundaries
Optimize application performance and scalability
Write clean, modular, production-grade code following best practices
Support CI/CD deployments and containerized environments
What We’re Looking For (Must Have)
Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot and REST API development
Solid understanding of microservices architecture
Experience working with relational databases (e.g., DB2, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
Experience deploying applications on GCP (GKE or App Engine preferred)
Understanding of cloud-native design principles
Experience with containerization (Docker)
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
Preferred Experience
Experience with Cloud Spanner (relational or JSON/document mode)
Experience in cloud migration projects (Azure/AWS to GCP)
Knowledge of Kubernetes (GKE) configuration and deployment
Experience with observability tools (logging, monitoring, tracing)
Exposure to API gateways such as Apigee
